Aaron siskind Photography

Background

Aaron Siskind was a photographer born in New York on December, 4, 1903. He was know for his involvement in the abstract impressionism movement and took photos for the elements of art and principles of design, shape, form, and contrast.

His photos

These are four photos taken by Aaron Siskind that inspire me. Although all of his images are black and white and have strong components of shape, form, and contrast, there is still variety in his subjects. There is a foot, a patterned window, a plant, and two people dancing. Although there is not a lot of emotion in every one of his pictures, it was possible for Siskind to show it, like in the picture of the people dancing. It is a dark photo but he was able to capture the expression of the man's face and show the happy and lighthearted emotion. The picture of the foot is so simple but to me, it is interesting and I'm still trying to find out why. Siskind also took pictures of everyday objects like a window and a plant. These four pictures are slightly different but they all clearly show Aaron's photography style which I find to be very fascinating.

My photos

These are three pictures that I took that are inspired by Aaron Siskind's photography style. They were originally all in color. The trees were bright green and the sky was blue, the bridge had more light shining through, and the wood was a worn out brown.. When I was looking for things to take pictures of, I thought about Siskind's use of line, shape, form, and contrast. To achieve the contrast, edited the images with the same black and white filter. There is a stark contrast between the trees and the sky in the first picture. The picture of the bridge and the sidewalk have both shape and form. The bricks that hold the bridge up have form and can be viewed from different angles. The wood in the third picture has lines and texture. That is how I shot and edited these three pictures inspired by Aaron Siskind.
